$15.00Join me for a class on the basics of free-motion quilting. You’ll set up your sewing machine and then, working on a small previously prepared quilt sandwich [see supply list], you will learn and practice basic shapes for free-motion quilting confidence.
Supply List
Clean, working sewing machine with ability to lower feed-dogs
Free motion/darning foot
2 prepared quilt sandwiches(top, batting, backing) either pinned or spray basted:[Note: if possible, please stop by the Schoolhouse table at the guild meeting to see examples of what Madeleine has in mind!
One sandwich should be 25”-30” square or thereabouts
The other 12”-15” square-ish as a sample for checking tension, practice
Use muslin or light-colored plain fabric so that you can see your stitches!
Pieced batting scraps work for your sandwich
Sewing machine needles– size 80/12 or a size recommended for your thread weight. I recommend sharp needle styles (microtex, top stitch, embroidery, etc.)
Thread- I use cotton 50-weight thread. You will need one top and bobbin color matching your sample, and one contrasting color.
Basic sewing supplies(scissors,tweezers, etc.)
Pencil and ruler
Optional:
Walking/even feed foot
Straight/single hole stitch plate
Extra sample sandwiches for fast workers. BBQ’s Charity Quilts will also provide some donation quilts that can be used for extra practice if anyone wishes to take one home at the end of class!
