2025 Quilt Show Judges

Elizabeth Spannring
National Association of Certified Quilt Judge
Canadian Quilters Association/ACC

Elizabeth began her crafty journey by knitting socks, sewing costumes, and decorating cakes. When a sewing friend presented her with a rotary cutter and a bag of scraps, another enthusiastic quilter was born. Entering her first international competition in 2000, she’s won numerous awards at major international, regional, and local shows across the US.
Having attended the Northern California Quilt Council Judges Training in 2002, she pursued her interest in judging and, in 2006, completed the NQA Certified Quilt Judge program. In 2011, she fulfilled the training and coursework to become a certified quilt judge with the Canadian Quilters Association/ACC.

She has served as a judge and juror for a variety of competitions and exhibitions throughout the US and Canada. Having had the opportunity to participate as an entrant, show organizer, judging floor coordinator, juror, and judge has given her first-hand experience on many levels. Believing that every quiltmaker has a “voice” waiting to be heard, she strives through concise and constructive comments to provide objective feedback to the quiltmaker, recognizing the creativity and expertise of each individual quilter.

Dawn Davis

Dawn has been quilting since the mid-1990s, but it was only after retirement in 2015 that she became serious and adventurous in her quilt-making (some might even call her obsessive; she prefers passionate). This is when she began taking classes and workshops, studying construction techniques and attempting to emulate anything new.

A hunger to learn more about quilting and needlework, combined with a desire to spend more time in the company of a like-minded community, led Dawn to the world of quilt judging. She believes that quilters each have their own personal style and individual strengths, but it is the shared joy of stitching, as well as the frustrations that accompany it, that binds them together. Dawn believes that, as a quilt judge, she is in a position to encourage others while continuing to expand her own knowledge. She recognizes that quilters stitch their hearts into their work, making it a very personal endeavor. Dawn is honored and grateful to be allowed to admire their work up close as a judge, treating each work with respect.

Dawn is currently a Learner with The Quilters Guild of the British Isles, Quilt Judging Course. This is a two-year intensive course divided into six modules. It covers a diverse range of subjects, including art, design, construction techniques, jurying, and judging, with practical exercises throughout.

Dawn lives in the Willamette Valley in Oregon with her husband and her little dog ‘Doodle.’ When she is not in her studio cutting up fabric and sewing it back together, she enjoys traveling, thrifting, and, on occasion, exercising.
