This is a learn it-and-do it class. We will learn how to make a string pieced quilt. The technique is pretty simple — strips or “strings” of fabric sewn to a foundation. Maureen will have handouts and some patterns. Come prepared to have a great time with fellow class members and try your hand on a new technique that will use up those skinny strips of fabric we can’t bear to throw away.
Think of all those strips of fabric that get cut off when you straighten up your yardage ready to cut for a quilt. Usually they are skinny at one end and fat at the other, and most of the time the whole width of the fabric. Do you throw them away or save them for someday when you have time to cut up the fat end?
You can also use strips that you cut for the quilt, but the object of this quilt is to use “strings” of fabric that otherwise would have been discarded. So gather those scraps and come and join Maureen for our class.
Maureen will have handouts and patterns and we should have enough time to get most of a quilt top done, depending on the size you decide to make and how fast you sew. You can either bring your lunch or order a sandwich from Idaho Pizza for $9 (no checks or cards please).
