Indiana Quilt Gardens
Amish farmers and their families live side by side with builders of motor homes in Elkhart County of northwestern Indiana. The area was hard hit by the economic downtown of 2008. The people gathered to develop ideas to improve the economy and the Indiana Quilt Gardens was born.
Every year volunteers and master gardeners plan 40 foot square gardens based on quilt blocks and located in public places and businesses. Over a million flowers are planted. Tourists can drive the Heritage trail and visit the 6 towns located in Elkhart County. This is truly a quilters and flower lovers paradise. As an additional treat, many barns and stores also have beautiful quilt blocks painted on the buildings.
Barbara Smith is looking forward to sharing this wonderful experience with you in January.
