SUMMARY:07/16/26 - Discover the Blues: Cyanotype Basics Workshop with Jessie Swimeley
DESCRIPTION:No Sewing Workshop \nThis workshop has been rescheduled for July 16.  You will be notified by e-mail.\nIf you are not available on the new date\, you will be refunded for the class registration fee.\n \nTreasure Valley artist\, Jessie Swimeley\, will guide her students through the process of using CYANOTYPE – an historic photographic process that can be applied to fabric or paper. \nCyanotype creates beautiful blue and white prints using UV radiation (the sun) and the shadows of objects like leaves\, lace\, keys\, small trinkets\, or large format negatives such as photographs. It is an easy to learn and fun process that brings creativity and your own special magic to quilting projects.\nYou will learn the basics of cyanotype printing including the chemistry used\, how it works on different surfaces\, and composition. You may choose to use your own photographic negatives or to use a variety of organic materials in your creations. You will walk away with several of your own prints that can become a quilt block or be added to other projects. \nPlease Note: that Cyanotype is best suited for art quilts. The images you create will degrade if they are washed or come into frequent contact with the oils from skin. \nKit Fee: $10 \nSupplied by Instructor:\n• Paper\, for making prints\n• Fabric\, for making prints\n• Chemistry\n• Objects for printing\n• Optional: photographic negative for interested students\, see note below under Student Supply List \nSupply list for students:\n• Notebook and pencil/pen\n• Optional- Unique items to make prints with\, the best items have a strong flat silhouette – examples: keys\, lace\, small items\, fancy glass\, leaves and flowers\n• Optional- One or two photographs to turn into a negative.  Photos should be between 3 x 5 and 5 x 7.  Images must be your own photo or an image you have permission to use.  Digital images must be of high resolution – 300 dpi.  Photos with plain backgrounds work best.  Send digital photos to jessie@jessieswimeley.com.  Please send by 7/10/2026 so Jessie can prepare the negative to work with during the workshop on 07/16.

DESCRIPTION:Fabric Collage by Jane Haworth \nWe have two opportunities to learn fabric collage from Jane.  Registration will begin 1/1/2027.  The deadline to register (and to receive a refund for cancellations) will be April 15th.  More class details will be posted here as we approach registration date \nFriday and Saturday\, April 23 and 24\, 2027:   Recreate your favorite pet photo in fabric.   2 day class is $120.  (You can create from a photo that is not a pet – such as a building\, a plant\, just not a human face which is more complicated) \nPets Fabric Collage \nIn this 2 day class students will learn to enlarge a photo of your pet and recreate the image. Using a variety of fabrics we will trace and fussy cut fabrics and apply in her raw edge fabric
