SUMMARY:Curve Confidence Schoolhouse by Roberta Parsons 04/17/27
DESCRIPTION:Quiltmaker\, pattern designer\, and barn quilt painter Roberta Parsons grew up on a multi-generational rural egg-ranch with three older brothers\, a rugmaking/quilt teacher mother and a model airplane builder/pilot father. Their unspoken family philosophy was that creativity was a given! Roberta retired from the corporate world in 2019 after a long career in the retail catalog production\, magazine and printing industry. She now happily resides in Payette\, Idaho. \nRoberta says\, “This workshop is intended for all the people who see quilts or blocks with curves and decide they can’t do it because for whatever reason\, someone once told them that curves are HARD unless they plan to learn applique. Curves are not hard! They’re bias\, so they can get stretched out of whack and not behave if you don’t handle them tenderly. But they’re NOT HARD. \nOnce people are comfortable with improv curves and understand the geometry of how curves work\, they can move on to the more rigid\, template-based\, seam- allowance-added curves without the fear of a block that ends up lumpy and misshapen. \nProbably one of the most BASIC things that I’ll demonstrate and teach in this workshop is how I don’t pin\, glue\, clip or add seam allowance (for improv) to my curves. I’ll teach you how to recognize when you do need to make adjustments for seam allowance or use templates and WHY. From that initial demonstration sequence\, we will move into exercises that you can complete at your own pace.” \nThe photos show a quilt made by Roberta (“Improv with Curves”)\, and a small table-topper made by a participant during a 2-hour workshop that Roberta taught for the Treasure Valley Quiltmakers. \nMore Information to Follow!

This class makes it easy to learn the process without pulling fabric or drawing your own design – $30 plus $25 kit fee

(You can create from a photo that is not a pet – such as a building\, a plant\, just not a human face which is more complicated) \nPets Fabric Collage \nIn this 2 day class students will learn to enlarge a photo of your pet and recreate the image. Using a variety of fabrics we will trace and fussy cut fabrics and apply in her raw edge fabric

Mentoring another comes in many forms. \nFrom Maker to Mentor: Effective Teaching Strategies\nEvery skilled quilter has a wealth of knowledge to share\, but transforming your personal passion into an engaging class requires a different set of tools. This one-hour lecture is designed to transition you smoothly from a solo maker into an inspiring mentor. You will discover how to present quilting techniques while  creating an encouraging environment where every student can thrive. \nThe session utilizes the proven Prepare\, Present\, Practice\, and Perform training framework to structure your future trainings for maximum success. First\, we will explore the Prepare stage\, focusing on how to set clear learning objectives and organize your materials before students arrive. Next\, we will cover the Present phase\, teaching you how to visually and verbally demonstrate techniques. \nThe final portion of the lecture tackles the hands-on dynamics of a quilting workshop through the Practice and Perform stages. You will learn how to effectively support students during their independent Practice time\, offering constructive feedback without taking over their sewing machines. Finally\, we will discuss how to guide students to Perform\, ensuring they leave your session with the independence\, confidence\, and skill to complete their quilt projects at home.
