SUMMARY:Lecture: Exploring Nature with Paper + Stitch David Owen Hastings 08/26/26
DESCRIPTION:Laura Reardon from The Quilt Crossing and Boise Basin Quilters are co-sponsoring a trunk show with David Owen Hastings. He’ll be teaching several classes at the store but is now coming in a day early to present a trunk show. The show would be Wednesday evening\, August 26th from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at The Quilt Crossing. \nBBQ Members are eligible to buy tickets until July 31\, 2026\, for $5.00 to attend this trunk show.  As of August 1\, tickets will go up to $10.00 each per person. \nIn this lecture\, David talks about his work as a visual artist\, and how there are similarities to how he now works as a quilter. \nDAVID’S JOURNEY FROM STITCHING PAPER\, TO STITCHING FABRIC\n1 hour + Q&A: This talk starts with a review of his stitched paper artwork\, which he has been creating and showing in galleries for over 25 years. He will give examples of where his inspiration comes from\, and what his creative process is like. His artwork appeals to those who love organic processes and the beauty of nature\, color and texture. He combines his monotype-printed paper with stitching on a vintage sewing machine. He will show examples and include details for those interested in creating their own stitched paper artwork. He will then talk about how quilters can find inspiration in the world around us\, and how his journey as a maker has taken him from gallery artist into the world of modern quilting. This lecture ties directly into his workshop\, Stitched Paper Collage. \nABOUT DAVID\nDavid Owen Hastings is a modern quilter\, graphic designer\, and textile artist living in the Pacific Northwest. He creates richly layered contemporary artwork and modern minimal quilt designs. Sharing knowledge\, encouraging creativity\, and teaching new skills are personal passions of his. David gives lectures and workshops on branding\, art\, textile\, and modern quilting techniques. He enjoys helping people bridge the gap between modern art and modern quilting! SUMMARY:10/16-17/26 Creative Design Workshop by Joe Cunningham
DESCRIPTION:Here’s how Joe Cunningham describes this two-day workshop: “I will demonstrate and teach how to develop a small idea into an abstract quilt. Along the way I will teach the techniques I use for freehand piecing\, working with bias tape\, and creating memorable compositions. Under my instructions\, students will develop their own designs and get them to a point where they can be completed.” \nSince the cost is supplemented by the guild (making this workshop available at less than half its price elsewhere!)\, registration will be available only to guild members until Aug. 20\, 2026. On that date\, nonmembers are invited to register for any remaining workshop spots. The workshop price includes Saturday lunch (a half-sandwich and soup cup from Cafe Zupa’s). Lunch on Friday will be on your own. \nAug.20th is also the final day to cancel and receive a refund. \nSUPPLIES \nThis is primarily a machine class but some hand sewing may be required. \nBesides your sewing machine and standard machine sewing equipment\, you will also need the following items: \nExtension cord\, pins\, seam ripper\, etc.\nRotary cutter\, mat and rulers\nIron and pressing board (a few will also be available to share)\nScissors\nBias tape and matching thread (3 packs)\nAt least six yards of fabric\, including fabrics that contrast strongly.\nA 40″ wide design board (may be flannel or something similar\, to be taped to the wall). Design board may be longer vertically than 40″\, but only 40″ of wall width per person will be available horizontally.

(You can create from a photo that is not a pet – such as a building\, a plant\, just not a human face which is more complicated) \nPets Fabric Collage \nIn this 2 day class students will learn to enlarge a photo of your pet and recreate the image. Using a variety of fabrics we will trace and fussy cut fabrics and apply in her raw edge fabric
