2025 Quilt Show Judges

Elizabeth Spannring
National Association of Certified Quilt Judge
Canadian Quilters Association/ACC

Elizabeth began her crafty journey by knitting socks, sewing costumes, and decorating cakes. When a sewing friend presented her with a rotary cutter and a bag of scraps, another enthusiastic quilter was born. Entering her first international competition in 2000, she’s won numerous awards at major international, regional, and local shows across the US.
Having attended the Northern California Quilt Council Judges Training in 2002, she pursued her interest in judging and, in 2006, completed the NQA Certified Quilt Judge program. In 2011, she fulfilled the training and coursework to become a certified quilt judge with the Canadian Quilters Association/ACC.

She has served as a judge and juror for a variety of competitions and exhibitions throughout the US and Canada. Having had the opportunity to participate as an entrant, show organizer, judging floor coordinator, juror, and judge has given her first-hand experience on many levels. Believing that every quiltmaker has a “voice” waiting to be heard, she strives through concise and constructive comments to provide objective feedback to the quiltmaker, recognizing the creativity and expertise of each individual quilter.

Carole Gold
CQA/ACC Certified Quilt Judge
Professional Longarm Quilter
Artist

Carole is an experienced needleworker, quilter and artist whose work has been juried into both art and quilt shows, winning awards along the way. For a decade, she has judged throughout Canada and worked behind the scenes of our CQA/ACC national juried show as a juror, jury coordinator, judging coordinator, educator and judge. A thirst for learning and a love of quilts led Carole to pursue certification as a quilt judge. At first, her goal was simply to learn how to elevate her own work – but as an educator, she found herself completing the program to support other quilters in their pursuit of excellence, too. Objectivity, recognizing excellence, and offering informed, specific and constructive feedback are key parts of this support. Carole respects the beauty and spirit behind the making of every quilt and looks forward to every show with great delight.
