"Antique Quilts and the Women Who Made Them"

Early this year, BBQ obtained the DVD set of the nine, 2011 PBS episodes, “Why Quilts Matter: History, Art & Politics”. The series spotlighted the passion and differing points of view surrounding the quilt and its culture. Shelly Zegart is a co-founder of the Kentucky Quilt Project, Inc., the Alliance for American Quilts. She is an expert at the forefront of quilt study for over three decades and has created the first series to show the world that quilts are bigger than people think, using hundreds of examples from quilt makers past and present.
Thus, the idea for our May program was born, for many of our BBQ members have great quilts with great histories. Several members have agreed to share their antique quilts and the stories of their creators.  We will also have on display other quilts that are more than 50 years old.
